			During the war with the Breen, the Enterprise-I and several other Starfleet ships were disabled by a power dampening platform that the Breen put in orbit around Earth. Bain was able to destroy it by slamming the [[USS Maladventure]] into the platform while he and his crew launched in the ship's escape pods. With his ship functional again, Dax led Starfleet to drive the Breen away and rescue the escape pods.


	Dax was not pleased to be made Bain's second in command of the Federation task force assembling at Starbase 228 to counter a possible Vulcan invasion.
