			The [[USS Secondprize]] receives a distress call from [[Karina Durham]]. When the ship arrives, Captain [[Alexander Rydell]] learns that Durham has been used as bait to get him to talk with Admiral [[Earl Wyndham]]. Wyndham is taken into custody, but soon escapes, taking Durham's ship, the Acapella II, with him. The Acapella II stops in the Beta Quadrant, and the Secondprize arrives to find it completely empty. Rydell is sure that Wyndham has led them out this far for a reason, particularly since Wyndham left a set of coordinates displayed on the Acapella II's main console.


			The coordinates lead to a small planetoid called Demon's Sanctum, a place crawling with smugglers, arms dealers, and the like. Rydell sends Durham, Commander [[Travis Dillon]], and Lieutenant Commander [[Patricia Hawkins]] to Demon's Sanctum in Durham's ship to see what they can learn. Several drinkers at a run-down tavern speak of ship disappearances in a nearby asteroid ring. [[Spaanz]] and [[Taanz]] are there as well. They grab Dillon and Hawkins and take them to a ship, which leaves Demon's Sanctum. Durham rushes back to the Secondprize in the Acapella II, and the Secondprize follows Spaanz's and Taanz's ship to the asteroid ring. The composition of the ring interferes with the Secondprize's sensors, making it impossible to scan the interior. Once they enter the ring, they are faced with a fleet of Federation-style starships...all with their weapons locked on the Secondprize.
