The Oracle was the name given to the backup computer core from the Hermes 5 by the residents of Carsullis. Carsullis was a pre-industrial Class M world with a level of development roughly equivalent to Medieval Europe, and the core decided that it would guide the planet's development and hopefully avoid a lot of the deaths due to war, disease, and poverty that most planets experienced in so-called "normal development." Lieutenant Shelly Marsden was sent to Carsullis to retrieve the core, but she, it, and Cole Anfibon were beamed aboard a Breen ship commanded by Thot-Phul after the Breen blasted the shrine from orbit. With the influence of the computer core removed, the Carsullans presumably returned to their normal path of development. (Scrap Metal Of The Gods [BG])
