Joss Thanatos

Chef of the S.S. Hansean and an expert in species' death rites. When the Hansean was disabled by a pirate EMP attack he helped Nyoko Sulu get over the death of Crewman Jak Chiuginn, one of her engineers, and focus herself on repairing the ship (Babel Talk [IV]).

Notes

Joss Thanatos is named after Joss Whedon, creator of shows such as Buffy The Vamprie Slayer, Angel and Firefly, whose episode Out of Gas served as initial inspiration for this story, and Thanatos, the Ancient Greek personification of Death and Mortality.
