The Oracle

The Oracle was the name given to the backup computer core from the Hermes 5 by the residents of Carsullis after it crashed on their world following the destruction of the prototype ship. Carsullis was a pre-industrial Class M world with a level of development roughly equivalent to Medieval Europe. The core, which was now being worshipped and called The Oracle, had the Carsullans build a shrine around it using rocks that it knew would interfere with sensors and transporters. It decided that it would guide the planet's development and hopefully avoid a lot of the deaths due to war, disease, and poverty that most planets experienced in so-called "normal development." Lieutenant Shelly Marsden was sent to Carsullis to retrieve the core, but she, it, and Cole Anfibon were beamed aboard a Breen ship commanded by Thot-Phul after the Breen blasted the shrine from orbit.
