Commander Walter Morales, Dr. Amedon Nelson, and Frequoq Wuddle managed to find out what happened to the missing Multeks. Now who's going to find them?
Summary
This story picks up right where Collectibles - Part One left off.
With Midon safe aboard the USS Wayward, the Wayward crew set about trying to figure out where the Collectors went. Investigating one of the planets that the Collectors were swarming over when they captured the runabout USS Cumberland, Lieutenant Commander Craig Porter and Colonel Martin Lazlo find ancient ruins that have recently been picked clean of artifacts and, more importantly, a padd left by the Collectors advertising a sale to be held nearby on one of their Vault-Ships in three days. The Wayward meets up with the USS Mongoose, which is carrying the bulk of Lazlo's marine force. Using the Mongoose, Beck, Stephanie Hodges and Porter travel to the Vault-Ship, and after telling the Collectors that they are from a museum interested in the artifacts, they are invited to dock inside the Vault-Ship to attend the Collectors' liquidation auction.
On the Vault-Ship, Porter goes to peruse the ships for sale. He finds the Runabout Cumberland on the sales floor, but not the missing Multek ship. The Multek ship is in another docking bay, and a Collector informs Porter that it is being kept for the Collectors' private collection. Porter heads back to the runabout and sets to work at its main console while trying to look like an interested shopper while Beck and Hodges mill about the main auction hall. After completing his work, Porter heads toward the main auction hall as well, but he runs into a Collector who recognizes him. It's either Commander Walter Morales or Frequoq Wuddle. He's not sure which. Whoever it is pulls a weapon on Porter and takes Porter to be collected as well. Before he is taken away, he is able to transmit a control interface for the Cumberland from his tricorder to Beck's tricorder. Beck has Hodges create a distraction and uses the opportunity to type commands into her tricorder. Following Beck's commands, the Cumberland builds up and then releases a massive electromagnetic pulse, which rips through the forward sections of the Vault-Ship, scrambling the Collector mind control helmets. The auction hall is unaffected by the blast, but Beck and Hodges are able to grab a couple of Starfleet phaser rifles taken from the Cumberland that are up for auction, stun the Collectors in the room, and race out to find Porter. Porter uses the chaos from the electromagnetic blast to grab the Collector who recognized him and order the Cumberland to beam them aboard.
As all of this is happening, an automated sequence begins on the Mongoose, beaming Lazlo and his marines, who have been stored in the transport buffer, into the Vault-Ship. They separate into three teams. Porter is able to stun his unwilling companion and get his helmet off. It is Wuddle. Using the Cumberland's sensors and transporter, Porter is able to find the other two missing Multeks, who were in the forward part of the Vault-Ship and freed when the EM pulse fried their helmets, and bring them aboard the Cumberland. Lazlo's team takes the Vault-Ship's control room. Lieutenant Colonel Daniel O'Neal's team finds Dr. Nelson, has Porter beam her to the Cumberland, then they return to the Mongoose. The third marine team sets up a transporter by the Vault-Ship's hull, sending a signal out to the waiting Wayward. The Cumberland and the Mongoose retrieve the marines and Beck and Hodges, then leave the Vault-Ship just before the Wayward arrives and hits the Collectors' ship with several more EM pulses to disable the remaining mind-control helmets. After doing this, they are finally able to locate Morales and beam him aboard.
On the Wayward, Nelson and Wuddle have a long overdue talk about Midon. Wuddle feels that he has been lied to and doesn't understand how Nelson cannot be the same person anymore. He asks if she plans to rejoin with the symbiont. Nelson doesn't know. For the first time in 5 years, she is just Amelia again, and she wants to take some time to find out what she wants.
