Cabral is a Cerebe, a giant brain encased in a two-meter in diameter black metal sphere. They were created by the Pliggeri to perform various tasks, such as regulating the engine systems of starships. In order to accomplish this, their spheres rested in an advanced housing that transported highly-charged plasma. During his time serving on a Pliggeri ship, he learned about the frilia flower, which was responsible for a condition that removed the facial bumps of a planet's population. (The Face Of Things That Went [BG])

Cabral and his housing were separated from their ship by an explosion. The housing was later picked up by the USS Secondprize. Cabral, meanwhile, zipped by the USS Explorer at warp nine. Almost 120 years later, Cabral detected his housing, which had been installed in the Hermes-7 by Lieutenant Shelly Marsden, who hoped that it would regulate the prototype anti-singularity drive. Cabral phased through the hull of the ship, settled into his housing, and took over the ship's engine systems in order to get to a date with Jacinda, another member of his species.

After learning that Jacinda was now seeing another brain, Cabral elected to remain aboard the ship, which was renamed the USS Anomaly, due to the connection he had made with Dr. Natalia Kasyov. (If I Only Had a Brain [BG])

When the Anomaly traveled to the Andromeda Galaxy, Cabral was taken by the Associates who put him to work in Department Five. (Do You Have Anything To Declare? [BG]), (Yes, We Do Indeed Have Something To Declare! [BG]) Despite his attempts to resist and escape, he was psychologically broken down by Neureena, the Local Area Supervisor for Department Five, and eventually gave in and started working on Department Five's task, contemplating the word "of". (Meanwhile, Back At The Ranch [BG])

Cabral dedicated himself to this new task and was selected for transfer to a different department. During this transfer, a rescue team from the Anomaly arrived at the Associates space station where Cabral was being held. Cabral was able to mentally connect with Balpar and direct the away team to a location where he could join them. Once rescued and reunited with Kasyov, Cabral operated the anti-sing drive for two weeks straight to return the ship to the Milky Way. (Disassociation [BG])

In order to give Cabral the ability to join in more of shipboard life and on away missions, Kasyov obtained a camera he could control remotely at the Green Borg Collective of Bargains. Marsden added anti-grav capabilities as well. The resulting device was Cabral's hovercam. (What Color Is Your Borg? [BG])

Cabral was able to devise a way to counter the energy weapons used by the Section 31 ship Sloan and joined the away team that went to the Mega-Sim to rescue Captain Reginald Bain, Lieutenant Commander Tovar, and Ensign Hector Arroyo. (Illusions Of Grandeur - Part One, Illusions Of Grandeur - Part Two [BG])

While travelling through Romulan space, Cabral was drawn to a barren world by a signal that he could not ignore. He learned that the world was Gathering Point, which was the final resting place for members of his species. It was watched over by Chindela, a Pliggeri. Chindela explained the world's purpose to Cabral and other members of the USS Anomaly crew and informed Cabral that the brain had about 3 years left until he expired. The solitude of being there alone for so many years caused Chindela to snap, and he tried to force Cabral to stay there, even going so far as to send the empty Cerebe spheres he'd sworn a duty to watch over after the Anomaly's away team. Cabral was able to get through to him, and Chindela realized the horror of what he'd done with the spheres he was supposed to take care of. He returned them to Gathering Point and, as a way of making it up to Cabral, removed Cabral's expiration date, so that he could live however long as he was able. (Music Of The Spheres [BG])

Cabral's hovercam was part of the away team that beamed down to the Kasyov farm to rescue Kasyov's parents and stop the Vulcans were attempting to retrieve the Kolch'ak Device. Once the danger was over, Kasyov introduced Cabral to her parents and told them that she was in love with him. (Scratching The Surface [BG])

Kasyov decided that attempting a relationship with Cabral would be too complicated and broke the news to him while he was keeping the Anomaly at anti-sing on their way back to the Romulan Neutral Zone. He told her that he needed to be alone for the remainder of their journey. (In One Door, Out The Other [BG]) They made up and resumed their friendship after Kasyov needed Cabral's help in rescuing Marsden from a collapsed Jefferies tube. (Live Long And Conquer [BG])

The housing that Cabral's sphere rested in and that he used to interface with the Anomaly to control the anti-singularity drive was damaged when the Anomaly was attacked by the Red Borg and crashed on the Brown Borg planet. Cabral (through his hovercam), Marsden, and Sub-Commander Remax stole implants from the Brown Borg, from which they extracted nanoprobes that Cabral then directed to make the needed repairs to his housing so the Anomaly could leave the planet. (Living Off The Land [BG])

Cabral grew very close to the ship's computer, which made Kasyov jealous, since she could not be close to him in the same way. When the James T. Kirk Hologram was uploaded into the Anomaly's computer and took over, Cabral tried unsuccessfully to stop Holo-Kirk from deleting the Anomaly computer's code. He ended up being forced to hide in a simulation of a brig, from which he could not escape. Kasyov, meanwhile, connected her mind directly to the computer and took its place. She found Cabral and rescued him. Then she was able to take back control of the Anomaly from Holo-Kirk and, working with Cabral, save Bain from being killed in a holodeck with the safeties off, where he was battling Holo-Kirk as well. Now closer to Cabral that ever, Kasyov informed Marsden that she had no intention of ever disconnecting herself. (Hollow Threats [BG])

Cabral and Kasyov worked with the Anomaly's Romulan officers to examine the sensor readings of the Breen outpost that the Anomaly destroyed while under the control of the Kirk hologram. They discovered that the Breen outpost was actually a weapons platform. They blackmailed Thot-Mutch into negotiating peace with Admiral Kristen Larkin (Trial And Error, The Bain Supremacy [BG]).

After multiple fights with Kasyov because they were just too close and aware of every single thought that went across each other's minds, Kasyov insisted that Marsden disconnect her from the computer in the middle of efforts to stop the 2387 Hobus ultranova and send Spock and Nero's ships to a slightly different universe, which was already putting a tremendous strain on Cabral. While Kasyov was recovering in sickbay from the removal and her extended time connected to the system, Cabral came to see her using his hovercam, and they both apologized to each other. (We'll Always Have Romulus [BG])

While on a triple date on Waystation Prime with Kasyov, Tovar, Marsden, Commander Vioxx, and Tori Burke, Cabral's hovercam was kidnapped by the Dillon Consortium and locked in a room on a hidden level of the station. Once they were locked in, Cabral lost contact with his hovercam and alerted Bain and the Waystation Prime commander, Commodore Theodore Ritter to the situation. A Waystation Prime security team was able to rescue Kasyov and the others. (Legend of the Bain [BG])

Cabral was able to return to the planet where he was initially grown when Harold and Ann Marsden discovered the location of the Pliggeri homeworld. While there, Cabral activated a long-dormant computer system, which latched onto him and Kasyov and interrogated them about their presence on the planet. Cabral learned that the Pliggeri has abandoned the world over a century earlier and moved to a different galaxy to get away from what they saw as the child races of the Milky Way, which were starting to achieve spaceflight. The computer threated to send Cabral and Kasyov to the Pliggeri as data to be studied, and it also set in motion a series of events that would end in the destruction of the planet. Marsden was able to free them in time, and they returned to the Anomaly shortly the planet was destroyed. Cabral hoped that one day he would learn where the Pliggeri went. (Primary Sources [BG])

After the Anomaly took Jacinda to Gathering Point following her expiration, Chindela shrunk the planet (himself included) into a tiny cube that Cabral carried inside him. Cabral determined that he must take Gathering Point to the Pliggeri’s new home in another galaxy and, after avoiding being killed by a bomb beamed into Science Lab Four by Selex and helping Bain defeat a fleet of Breen ships equipped with anti-singularity drives, he and Kasyov asked for Bain and Marsden's help to get there. They hatched plan in which Marsden automated a lot of the ship's systems under the guise of a refit, and then, when things were ready, Cabral and Kasyov stole the Anomaly and took it to find the Pliggeri.
