Neb
Neb was a lifeform from another universe that emerged into ours through a nanoscopic tear in spacetime in the Gorman Nebula. Once emerged, Neb consumed the nebula, drawing the interest of the USS Anomaly. The just born entity, which looked like a ball of beige pudding about a meter in diamter, scanned the starship and determined that Commander Vioxx, who was in command at the time, was their father. Neb projected a childlike but still gelatinous version of themselves into the Anomaly while still remaining in sphere-form outside the ship. Both forms grew rapidly. Vioxx, at the urging of the Anomaly's senior officers, attempted to take care of Neb but eventually just put them in a holopod to deal with a tantrum. Neb continued to age in the holopod and eventually took control of the Anomaly, sending it careening through space at anti-sing speeds. Vioxx went in and talked to Neb, this time really listening and trying to connect with them. It worked, and Neb released control of the ship. By the next morning, Neb was ready to leave the Anomaly. Vioxx told him to be safe, avoid the Klingons and the Borg, and to comm sometimes, if he wanted. The projection of Neb on the Anomaly vanished, and its spherical form, which now measured more than thirty meters in diameter, took off to explore the universe. (Born to Rom [BG])
Some time later, after Vioxx and his officers returned to the Romulan Empire and received a new scout ship, they encountered Neb again out in unexplored space. Vioxx invited him on board to have dinner. (Going, Going, Gone... [BG])
