The USS Anomaly is a Hermes-class starship and the central starship of Star Traks: Boldly Gone.

Construction

The USS Anomaly started life as the Hermes-7, an experimental ship designed for use with the prototype anti-singularity drive. As evidenced by the "7" in its name, the Hermes-7 was the seventh attempt to get the anti-singularity drive to work properly. The previous six Hermes vessels all exploded when the drive was activated. Lieutenant Shelly Marsden, who developed the anti-sing drive, was unable to stabilize the system until she took the unorthodox step of funneling the drive energies through a piece of space debris that was discovered by the USS Secondprize over a century earlier. This debris was actually part of an advanced culture's starship and served as the housing for the sphere-encased brains they used to regulate their engine systems. Marsden's use of housing attracted Cabral, who phased through the hull of the Hermes-7 prototype containing the housing and took over control of the ship. Once Captain Reginald Bain was able to intercept the Hermes-7 and befriend Cabral. Cabral elected to remain aboard the ship, which was renamed the USS Anomaly, and Bain took over as commanding officer. (If I Only Had a Brain [BG])

Service

After a few shakedown missions, Starfleet sent the Anomaly to the Andromeda Galaxy as the first vessel from the Federation to ever visit. Almost immediately, the crew ran afoul of the Associates, and the ship was heavily damaged and lost the ability to use the anti-singularity drive when Cabral was taken away by the Associates. (Do You Have Anything To Declare? [BG]) The USS Navigator towed the Anomaly back to the nearest outpost, Gyjik's Galaxy Gateway, where Lieutenant Marsden was able to obtain parts to make repairs. (Yes, We Do Indeed Have Something To Declare! [BG])

The Anomaly was infected by a Dillon Consortium computer virus that also attacked the Green Borg and left their drones involuntarily giving sales pitches for Consortium products. The Manager was forced to close the Collective of Bargains and commed Starfleet requesting Reginald Bain's help. Once in the Anomaly, the virus generated holograms of Bradley Dillon all over the ship spouting ads. The crew of the Anomaly was able to find the source of the virus and destroy it, but this attracted the attention of three Red Borg ships. They attacked the Anomaly, sending it crashing to the planet below. After stealing implants from the Brown Borg who lived on the planet in order to obtain nanoprobes needed to fix the interface to the anti-singularity drive, the crew was able to launch the Anomaly off of the planet and return to Federation space. (Hard Sell, Living Off The Land [BG])

The Anomaly's anti-singularity drive caused the ship to unexpectedly enter the pocket universe where the Multeks had hidden the Multek Enclave. Breaching the pocket universe severely damaged the Anomaly, destroying the ship's dilithium supply and forcing Lieutenant Shelly Marsden to seal off the singularity. The Multeks towed the ship to Multos, and Frequoq Wurlitz offered the Multeks' assistance in repairing the vessel (Right Where We Left It [BG]).

After taking a beating while battling a Breen fleet equipped with anti-singularity drives, the Anomaly returned to Earth for a full refit. Three months later, the ship was stolen by Cabral and Dr. Natalia Kasyov and never seen again. (Going, Going, Gone... [BG])

Features

Aside from the anti-singularity drive, the Anomaly also has holopods in all quarters, which can used for individual simulations or linked for group simulations.

The ship has a holographic mess hall, which the holographic chef changes to look like a different location each day.

There is a British pub called "Twain the Keel" aboard as well as the Deck Four Coffee Shop and Steamery.

Captain Bain raises flowers in the Anomaly's arboretum.
