Benn Mann

An engineer of somewhat noted accomplishments, Benn was responsible in part for the main hull designs of the Miranda Class of Starship. He notes himself that he'd be proud of that accomplishment, but at the time he was attempting to design a frisbee for his Mom and Dad's Dog, and that the designs somehow got emailed to the wrong location, ending up at the San Francisco Fleet yards instead of his parent's farm in Oklahoma. He keeps a collection of ancient "perpetual motion" machines in his quarters and is yearning for the chance to do some cutting edge engineering, sadly his talent for old machinery and repairing the irreplaceable has overtaken his lust for invention.

Born in 2050, he was regarded as an excellent choice to head up a research and design team whose design credits are among the highest in the entire Starfleet, Miranda Class ships, K Class outposts and their biggest accomplishment, the first fully flushing zero-G bathrooms for new outposts. (Sadly they lost four of the team members during the initial trials for those.) Benn's sterling career came to an abrupt end when his team were drawn for the investigation of a long abandoned outpost on the polar wastelands of Titan, which is where he found the recipe for a long departed brand of Terran Whiskey.

Sadly, due to the highly suggestable nature of the engineer's mind, he became addicted to the fiery beverage and despite a two year stretch at a Federation rehabilitation station, he just couldn't quite get back to what he once was. Experimental treatment converted his lust for the alcohol into something slightly less hazardous to his health, a love for high cholesterol foods in all shapes and sizes. Fortunately for him, his metabolism has adjusted to the mix of high fat, low nutrition foods and through the miracle of modern medicine, he thrives on the stuff.

Assigned to the USS Devonshire after an unfortunate incident at Spacedock where he was found to be unable to process synthehol, and was arrested whilst romancing a traffic cone, naked in the center of the biggest civilian lounge, Benn is happy in his current role of chief engineer on the oldest ship in the fleet.
