Q

A race of omnipotent beings who's sole form of entertainment appears to be the humiliation and degradation of Starship Captain's and crews. A single Q has been the main contact point for many crews, taking it upon himself to generally harass and distract them from their normal missions. Whether or not the influence of the Q on any one mission actually makes any difference to the outcome of the mission (with the exception of with the envolvement of ships named "USS Enterprise") is a well debated point between Admiral Jean-Luc Picard and anyone else who will listen.
