Velara

In 2376, Commander Velara was in charge of Starfleet Inventory's field division, commanding the Inventory flagship USS Greenspan. That ship, however, was unfortunately eradicated by the Borg ("You Will Be Inventoried" [VEX]). Velara went on to command the USS Greenspan-A, a significantly smaller vessel. That ship, too, was blown apart, this time by the Starshine Kids ("If They Could See Me Now" [VEX]). Deciding not to risk giving Velara another vessel, Starfleet made her Commodore and director of the Explorer project, where she served with consternation until late in 2377 when she decided she'd had enough and turned the reigns over to Admiral Harlan Baxter, fresh off a brief but disastrous retirement ("This Item Earth" [VEX]).
