Synopsis
With several crew dead, dying, marooned, mentally unbalanced or just plain lost at sea (Can you say that on a starship?) The USS Devonshire needs restaffing. (And refitting - AGAIN!). Stuck in the Starfleet detailers offices, Stone et al find a unique means of solving their manpower problems, and even find that not everyone is cut out for the haphazard life led by those amongst starfleet who should be forgotten.
In addition to his other woe's, Our captain needs to find himself a new first officer pronto, so he can report for sentancing at his own court hearing... It's a mad mad mad mad world.
The ship itself is starting to get back to her old self (emphasis on the old) - although after a brief stop at Jupiter Station she is minus one warp core, a kind of necessary component if you're exploring deep space.
