Stephanie Hodges' older brother. As a child, Lisa Beck had a bit of a crush on him. An Andorian cult believed that Joel was the next incarnation of the Z'arkbelst, their god. They tried to take Joel back to Andor with them, but, since Joel was only 15, taking him amounted to kidnapping. Once Joel reached adulthood, he went to Andor to live out his life as a worshipped deity. Not a bad deal if you can get it. (Trials of Youth [REJ])

Years later, an issue with their cult registration (and Z'assy's killing of the Undersecretary for Cults, Parks, and Recreation) forced the group to leave Andor and move to the Andorian colony in Sector 49-A near Waystation. Joel decided that his position as Z'arkbelst entitled him to anything he desired. Seeing the grown-up Lisa Beck, he decided that he desired her and kidnapped her from Waystation to be his consort. Beck, Stephanie Hodges, and Walter Morales informed him that his Z'arkbelst powers didn't extend that far. (That Certain Someone [WAY])

Upon finding out that his sister was dating Walter Morales, Joel decided to kill Morales in the Ritual of K'hakahskahk. After combat passed through several additional rites, Stephanie called for the Rite of I'mt'llz'n meaning that the dispute between the combatants had grown into a battle between families that must be settled by their respective hive mothers. Joel was not happy about this, but respected the rite and let Morales live, telling Morales that he wasn't good enough for his sister. (The Rules Of Relativity [WAY])

Joel Hodges is a play on the name of Joel Hodgson, creator and star, for a while, of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
