Determined to find out what drove her predecessor over the edge, Doctor Elizabeth Aldridge heads to the Federation Funny Farm on Tantalus V to visit Doctor Rebecca Singer. Singer is more unstable than ever and prepared to kill anyone who thinks they're taking her job on the USS Secondprize away from her. I guess Aldridge came at a bad time.
Summary
Wanting to gather as much information as she can about the crew of the USS Secondprize, Dr. Elizabeth Aldridge decides to go visit her predecessor, Dr. Rebecca Singer, at Tantalus V. Singer has become fixated on Captain Alexander Rydell and is also under the delusion that she will soon be returning to the Secondprize. When Aldridge lets slip that she is the Secondprize's new Chief Medical Officer, Singer attacks her. Aldridge thinks she's seen more than enough, but she has to stay the night in quarters in the visitor's area until the shuttle from the Secondprize returns to retrieve her. That night, Singer escapes from the main facility and breaks into Aldridge's room. She's also carrying a phaser, which ups her from psychotic to dangerously psychotic. Aldridge works Singer into a fury by saying that she is now Rydell's lover. Singer charges her wildly, but Aldridge is able to take her down just before the Tantalus V orderlies arrive. Singer is taken away, determined that she will return to her true love, Alexander Rydell.

Author's Comments
This story is really mostly just set-up for Star Traks 6. It was just amazing to me how much more fun it was to write Singer as an antagonist rather than part of the crew.
