The Silverado is finally ready to make with all that Boldly Going stuff, but they have to make one brief pit stop along the way (Hence the title). Unfortunately, someone is ready to end this mission before it even gets started.
Summary
Silverado puts in at Waystation in preparation for her deep-space assignment and to pick up ship's counselor Eva Yvonnokoff. They also receive word from Admiral Tunney that more Dream Machines, identical to the one that incapacitated the Silverado crew, have been found on other Federation starships. Stafford is immediately knocked head over heels for Captain Beck, however his cheap attempt to romance her over a dinner briefing are cut short when Waystation is bombed by K'Eleese. K'Eleese escapes with a dangerous piece of Dillon Enterprises technology. While Stafford and Beck chase after her, Noonan and Fifebee remain on Waystation to determine who's responsible for distributing the Dream Machines. They manage to track the shipments to a Pakled freighter, the Boink.
During the hunt for K'Eleese, Stafford is incapacitated, leaving Beck in command of the ship. She manages to apprehend the pirate, but Silverado is nearly disabled in the attempt. The relationships between the Waystation and Silverado crews in this story can best be described as 'strained'. For example, Russell is nearly hit with a beer mug after suggesting that Dr. Wowryk is a lesbian.
