Will Dr. Natalia Kasyov cast Cabral aside for Balpar? Can Commander Prosak redeem herself? Will Lieutenant Commander Tovar ever give birth? And will the Anomaly escape or spend another series trapped in the Andromeda Galaxy? Find out this and more than you ever dreamed of in the Series Two finale!
Summary
Loborus believes he has detected Cabral, so Dr. Natalia Kasyov has the USS Anomaly and Pulsan resistance fleet change course to investigate. Balpar and Kasyov briefly kiss before Captain Reginald Bain interrupts to ask about Loborus’ discovery. Loborus would categorize the brain he is detecting as utterly, bitterly defeated.
Later, Kasyov and Balpar are in Kasyov’s quarters and close to having sex when Bain again interrupts to let her know that they are approaching a heavily-fortified Associates space station.
Meanwhile in sickbay, Tovar goes into labor, which brings out several of his past lives.
On the station Chief Associate Enforcer Uuulaadoodee is showing the chamber holding all of the brains that the Associates have working on their special project to the leader of the Associates Oooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa when they receive word that the Anomaly and five Pulsan ships are approaching the station.
A fleet of ten Associates ships moves to intercept the Anomaly and the Pulsans, far outmatching the Starfleet ship and the resistance, but then seven Lackini ships arrive, triumphantly informing Bain that they have successfully tracked their master across several star systems and demanding that he give them another command. Bain orders them to attack the Associates, allowing the Anomaly and the Pulsans to continue toward the station.
Once there, the Anomaly is hailed by Oooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, who threatens to destroy the Starfleet ship and the Pulsans, but then he puts them on hold, so he can consult with his Board of Directors. Bain sends Kasyov and Balpar to consult with Loborus to see if he can get a better fix on Cabral’s location. Balpar is able to join his mental power with Loborus and find Cabral while also learning several of the words the imprisoned brains are working on: “What is the meaning of.”
An Associate enters the Department Five simulation and informs Cabral that he is being transferred. He soon finds himself back in the main brain chamber. Bain, Kasyov, Balpar, and Lieutenant Bre'zan Brazzell beam into the chamber moments later. Upon sensing Kasyov, Cabral is able to take over Balpar briefly and express how happy he is to see them. Before they can act, though, the away team is beamed out by the Associates.
On the Anomaly, Tovar demands to be put into a pool to give birth. Prosak goes to see Marsden, who is in command, and suggests that the Associates ship they were given to replace the destroyed raceabout USS Caspian may be able to help them learn Associates technology. Marsden agrees and puts Prosak command while she races off to the shuttlebay.
Bain and the others find themselves in an Associates waiting room, which panics Balpar. Oooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa and Uuulaadoodee come in and inform them that the Associates are preparing a proposal that will likely involve their deaths. When they leave, Bain is able to prevent the door from closing, then the away team follows them to the board room. Bain storms in and discovers that the Board of Directors is made up of Nabusari. They dismiss Oooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa and Uuulaadoodee and explain to Bain that they created the Network to provide order and guidance to the younger races of the Andromeda Galaxy. Bain threatens to reveal the truth to the member species of the Associates, but the board says they have decided to destroy the Anomaly. The station fires at the ship, but misses because its massive weapons have trouble locking onto so small of a target. Bain tries to attack the board, but discovers they are all holograms.
Bain rejoins the away team and Oooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa and Uuulaadoodee. He orders the team to grab the Associates. Oooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa flees, leaving Uuulaadoodee to be attacked by the team before they pursue the Associates leader. They quickly become lost, but Cabral reaches out and takes over Balpar again. He leads the group to a place they can meet.
Marsden learns that Associates ships have a transceiver that gives them permission to enter Associates facilities, so she ties the transceiver from the ship they were gifted into the Anomaly, allowing them to pass through the station’s shields. Prosak orders the Pulsan fleet to fall back, while the Anomaly dodges fire from the station then gets so close that the station cannot get an angle to fire on the Starfleet ship. Prosak establishes contact with Bain, who refuses to be beamed out until they have retrieved Cabral.
Cabral leads the team to a control room overlooking the brain chamber. They quickly overpower the Associate manning the room, who turns out to be a Nabusari in an Associate costume. Oooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa arrives with ten armed Associates. Before Oooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa can gloat too much, Cabral burst through the massive window overlooking the brain chamber and barrels into the Associates.
With the station unable to hit the Anomaly, the Associates send three ships out to attack it. The Anomaly does its best to not get hit, but is in trouble when the Lackini fleet arrives, and Moklok is with them demanding to know where Tovar is. The Lackinis designed the Associates ships, so they know how to destroy them and proceed to quickly do so. Moklok beams over to attend the births of her children.
Before Oooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa and the other Associates can regroup and attack Cabral and the away team, several Lackinis beam in to protect Bain. Before everyone starts trying to kill each other, Kasyov demands to know what all of the brains were working on. Oooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa reveals that each department was working on a word in the question “What is the meaning of life?” Bain is not impressed and says that each person has to find the meaning of their own life. Oooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa doesn’t like this answer, since it lacks grandeur. He orders the Associates to kill the away team, but they are set upon by the Lackinis, who tell Bain and the others to flee. Balpar, who has been fearing what the Associates will do to him ever since they arrived on the station, says that he will hold them off and allow the team to escape. Instead he immediately surrenders and says that Bain and the others brainwashed him. Bain calls for beam out, and he, Kasyov, Brazzell, and Cabral return to the Anomaly.
With Cabral back in his housing in Science Lab Four, the Anomaly’s anti-singularity drive is functional again. Loborus, Moklok, and the squid babies beam over to the Lackinis ships, then the Anomaly launches into anti-sing before a fleet of thirty Associates ships can arrive to attack them. They head straight to the galactic border and destroy one of the Associates’ shield generators, allowing them back into the void between galaxies.
As the ship returns to the Milky Way, Bain official reinstates Prosak, and Tovar is given a clean bill of health.
Two weeks later, the Anomaly travels back through the gateway allowing safe passage through the galactic barrier around the Milky Way. Marsden takes anti-sing offline for maintenance after two weeks of constant use. Tovar arrives on the bridge with a box, which he reveals to be a bomb. He threatens to detonate it unless the Anomaly now goes the right way. When questioned by Bain, the past life now in charge says that Tovar is no longer available.
To Be Continued.
