Hector Arroyo
Ensign Hector Arroyo served in Starfleet Special Projects, where he worked with Lieutenant Shelly Marsden on the Hermes Project to develop an anti-singularity drive. Arroyo was the pilot of the six Hermes-class prototype ships that exploded as well as the Hermes-7, which included a bit of advanced alien debris that Marsden hoped with stabilize the anti-sing reaction. This debris was actually part of an advanced culture's starship and served as the housing for the sphere-encased brains they used to regulate their engine systems. Marsden's use of housing attracted Cabral, who phased through the hull of the Hermes-7 prototype containing the housing and took over control of the ship. Once Captain Reginald Bain was able to intercept the Hermes-7 and befriend Cabral. Cabral elected to remain aboard the ship, which was renamed the USS Anomaly, and Arroyo was made Helm Officer. (If I Only Had a Brain [BG])
After the Anomaly was stranded in the Andromeda Galaxy, Arroyo and Bain visited Gyjik's Galaxy Gateway looking for information on that region of space. While in a bar on Gyjik's, Arroyo revealed to Bain that he was engaged to a woman named Janie. Soon thereafter Bain was forced to watch an alien family's vacation photos, and Arroyo was approached by an old woman who told him that they should go get a defonilation to find the answers they wanted. It turned out that the woman ran a store across from the defonilation stalls, where Arroyo was able to buy a guidebook to Andromeda. (Yes, We Do Indeed Have Something To Declare! [BG])
Upon returning to Earth from Andromeda, Arroyo was contacted by his father, United Earth Senator Escobar Arroyo, who insisted that Arroyo and Janie come to dinner that week. Arroyo tried to reach Janie, only to find that she was missing along with her boss, Admiral Okawa. He then revealed to Marsden that he and Janie were only pretending to be engaged in order to get Arroyo's parents off his back about his dating life and marriage prospects. In return, Janie had gotten a recommendation from Senator Arroyo that allowed her to get her position with Admiral Okawa's office in Starfleet Sciences. Arroyo and Marsden took the USS Navigator to investigate and discovered that Okawa and Janie had been captured by the Serellan artist Veraxe', who was working on a massive unauthorized space painting. They were briefly captured as well, but Arroyo was able to escape Veraxe', destroying multiple robots in the process, then free Marsden, Janie, and Okawa. They fled Veraxe's ship only to find that he had completed the painting, which was absolutely gorgeous. They decided not to destroy it. After returning to Earth, Arroyo and Janie went to the dinner with Arroyo's parents, continuing the charade a bit longer. (The Ties That Bind [BG])
Arroyo went with Bain and Lieutenant Commander Tovar to the Mega-Sim on the Navigator in an attempt to stop the James T. Kirk hologram from recruiting its residents into joining a holographic uprising. The Kirk hologram had taken over the Section 31 ship Sloan, which, now under the command of the Moriarty hologram, attacked the Navigator sending it crashing to the surface of Beta Omadda Three, where the Mega-Sim was located. Arroyo, Bain, and Tovar found themselves on a recreation of the Anomaly commanded by the Kirk hologram. Arroyo helped find a backdoor in the program that allowed them to escape from the Anomaly simulation into the rest of the Mega-Sim. When Marsden was about to be taken back to the Andromeda Galaxy by the Associates and forced to work to pay off her debt to Gyjik's Galaxy Gateway, Arroyo realized that the Associates shuttle the Anomaly crew obtained in Andromeda would probably be worth enough to pay off the debt. The Anomaly retrieved the shuttle from Starfleet R&D on Earth and was able to catch up to the Associates, thanks to Cole Anfibon slowing the Associates down, to make the trade and retrieve Marsden. (Past Due [BG])
After the Romulan scout ship Tyvek was lost in the Delta Quadrant, the Anomaly was sent to rescue the ship's command officers, who were stranded on a planet. Arroyo discovered that the Tyvek's power had been completely drained by an energy-based entity he had encountered four years earlier inside a wormhole while he was testing a prototype wormhole drive ship. The entity, which Arroyo named Lucinda, had never encountered any other beings before and was very curious about Arroyo. Over time, the two grew close together to the point of merging into a single being that called itself The One. Curious to explore the universe Arroyo came from, The One returned the prototype ship to normal space, at which point Lucinda and Arroyo were ripped apart. Lucinda was reduced to a ten centimeter wide orb, but quickly grew when it drained energy from the wormhole ship. Lucinda decided to feed on the entire universe, frightening Arroyo, who used the ship's shields and wormhole generator to send Lucinda back where it came from. Instead, Lucinda ended up passing all the way through the wormhole into the Delta Quadrant, where it began heading back to Arroyo. The energy from the Tyvek allowed Lucinda to grow to 100 kilometers wide. When the Anomaly caught up to Lucinda, it attempted to drain the ship. Arroyo stole a raceabout to draw Lucinda away. Commander Prosak followed him aboard to get an explanation. Arroyo apologized to Prosak for what he had to do and blew up the raceabout just as Lucinda surrounded it. Lucinda saved Arroyo and Prosak, taking over Prosak in hopes that Arroyo would join with Lucinda in the human way. Arroyo refused at first but eventually gave in as he admitted that he only felt fulfilled as part of The One. Lucinda returned to the Anomaly to continue draining it, but the Anomaly crew sent the ship wildly careening through different dimensions, causing Lucinda terrible agony. Arroyo convinced Lucinda to take them to Bain, so he could convince Bain to stop and settle things peacefully. Lucinda sent them both to the Anomaly's bridge, where Arroyo was able to explain everything to Bain. Bain ordered the ship back to normal space, and Arroyo rejoined with Lucinda, giving up his physical body. Merged again as The One, Lucinda and Arroyo left to explore the universe after making a brief stop at Earth so Arroyo could say goodbye to his mother. (Bold Faced Lies [BG])
