It's amazing how fast word of something you don't want known gets around on a ship the size of the USS Anomaly. But it's word of something from the Romulan Empire that may be the bigger issue in the end. Find out what we mean as the Anomaly crew practices a little "Rumor Control."

Summary

Commander Prosak, Lieutenant Commander Tovar, Dr. Natalia Kasyov, Lieutenant Jamie Torgerson and others are on a mission on the USS Navigator to Xirxis Eight to study the remains of an ancient civilization while the USS Anomaly does a PR tour to show off the Federation/Romulan alliance and the addition of Romulan officers to the crew. Things are tense between Prosak and Tovar after what happened at the James T. Kirk High School career night. The Navigator receives a Priority One comm from Vorak, the governor of the Romulan colony Reno and ex-sharal of Prosak. He insists that Prosak come there immediately because their whole way of life is in danger. Prosak recalls the team studying the planet and orders the Navigator to Reno.

Lieutenant Shelly Marsden learns that there are rumors flying around the ship that she made advances on Tovar and he broke her heart. She tells Selex to find out who started the rumor. Commander Vioxx quickly puts a stop to it and tells Marsden that he believes that Captain Reginald Bain started the rumor. Bain denies it, though.

When the Navigator arrives at Reno and comms Vorak, he is very relaxed and surprised to see them. He invites Prosak to dinner that night, signaling her with a nose twitch that something is very wrong. She agrees to come to dinner and tells Tovar to have a team standing by if needed. At dinner, Vorak first asks Prosak questions to make sure that she is “untampered” and then tells her that the Vulcans are watching him. He convinced they are invading Romulus. He has little in the way of proof, though. Prosak feels he is being alarmist and says there is nothing she can do other than report his suspicions to Starfleet.

Selex tells Marsden who actually started the rumor in exchange for being in command of Engineering for the remainder of the day. She goes and confronts Ensign Yonk, who had heard Marsden and Bain talking about what happened between her and Tovar in the ship’s pub the night before. She demands that he remove any comments about her and Tovar from the shipwide network and apologize for being drunk and disorderly.

As the Navigator heads back to Xirxis Eight, Prosak receives a comm from Fexora, a friend of hers from graduate school and fellow RommaVulc. She asks if Prosak is attending the RommaVulc conference on Reno, then cuts the channel when she realizes Prosak is not supposed to know about it. Prosak tries to reach Vorak, but the colony is under a communications blackout on his order. Prosak has the Navigator return to Reno. When they arrive, two warhawks decloak to confront them, and an unusually calm Vorak tells her to get out of Romulan space. When Prosak says that he is not making sense, he replies that he is being utterly logical. With no other options, Prosak orders the Navigator to leave. Back on the Anomaly, Prosak tells Bain that the Vulcans are invading Romulan space by taking control of people.

Marsden is waiting for Tovar outside of his quarters to warn him about Yonk’s posts on the shipwide network. Torgerson is already in his quarters waiting to surprise him, but storms out after reading the posts, glaring at Marsden as she goes.
