The USS Anomaly returns to Federation space to find the Vulcans up to no good. Will they be able to get to Romulus in time to (a) reveal the Vulcan's plans and (b) avert a major war? And what does Prosak's father, Rorshak have to do with all this? And why on earth would he want a part in a small-time Romulan theatre production? All will be revealed in "Once More, with Feelings."
Summary
The USS Anomaly goes to join the Federation task force at the Federation/Romulan neutral zone and detects several Vulcan Sehlat-class ships, which are the Vulcans’ new larger warships fitted with increased weaponry. Captain Reginald Bain orders the Anomaly into the neutral zone, and the ship is immediately confronted by seven Vulcan ships and informed that the neutral zone is now Vulcan territory. Things almost get to the point of hostilities, but Bain backs off and orders the Anomaly back to the Federation side of the neutral zone, saying that he has to wait for a diplomatic solution or a better matched fight.
Bain goes to his Captain’s Lounge, while Commander Vioxx heads to his office. Commander Prosak is annoyed that Vioxx is going to make decisions without her, so Lieutenant Commander Tovar encourages her to do something about it. Soon she charges into the office with her own belongings and informs Vioxx that Starfleet regulations allow for the First Officer and Executive Officer to share office space.
Later Tovar is having dinner with Lieutenant Jamie Torgerson. Just as he is ready to talk to her about something important, he is summoned to the bridge. Once there, he sees Bain talking on a comm with Ambassador Rorshak. Rorshak and several members of the Romulan Senate were on a fact-finding mission to Reno when they lost contact with Romulus. They are on a small ship just inside the neutral zone, and Rorshak asks for Bain’s help getting out of Romulan space. Bain has Vioxx and Prosak assemble an all-Romulan team, so the Federation doesn’t look like it’s involved, and take the Raceabout USS Silverwood with its markings changed to look like a courier ship to go get Rorshak and the senators.
They arrive just before the scout ship holding Rorshak at the others is attacked by a Vulcan ship and beam them to the raceabout. The Vulcan ship gives chase and grabs the raceabout in a tractor beam. Vioxx decides to get out of the situation another way. Prosak is able to convince the Vulcan captain Slocum that they are a theater troupe. The Vulcan believes her but also requests a performance. Prosak agrees and hastily throws together a production of “Starscape Over Chula,” a play about the daughter of a Romulan dignitary who is betrayed by her father. In the end, she kills him. Prosak is obviously still angry that Rorshak sent the Anomaly to face Lucinda without warning her. She casts many of the senators as scenery, so they don’t have to actually act or memorize lines. Rorshak talks to Prosak about her anger with him, and she tells him that as long as he feels justifies in what he did, she cannot forgive him.
Tovar returns to his quarters to find Torgerson waiting for him. She says that they have to break up. She knows that he loves Lieutenant Shelly Marsden. He protests that he is willing to try to make their relationship work, but she ends things and leaves
Prosak and the Romulans perform the play, but the Vulcans do not like it. They tell the Romulans to leave the sector.
Tovar races to Marsden’s quarters and tells her that he is in love with her. They kiss, but once she learns that Torgerson broke up with him instead of him having the guts to do it himself, she’s angry and storms off, saying that he doesn’t deserve her.
The Romulans safely return to the Anomaly, and Prosak heads straight to her quarters to avoid being around her father any longer. She is in turmoil over everything that has happened lately between her demotion, her father’s actions, and her failed attempt at wooing Tovar. Her door chime sounds, and it is Tovar, who wants to talk. She jumps him instead, and the two fall onto her couch kissing and removing clothes.
