A trip home puts Dr. Amedon Nelson in the awkward position of trying to hide the fact that she is joined to a symbiont from her parents, the two most overprotective people in the cosmos. Also, just what does Starfleet have in mind for the new Waystation? Find out here.
Summary
Starfleet has decided to completely rebuild Waystation, creating a new facility that will be 400% larger than the old one. While the renovation is underway, the crew and residents of Waystation will reside in a series of connected cargo modules that have been fitted with life-support and power generators. This module city has been dubbed Waystation Village. Dr. Amedon Nelson will miss the move into Waystation Village, though, because she is going home for her parents' 40th wedding anniversary. She has not seen her parents since well before she was joined with Midon, and she has not told them that she now has a symbiont.
Dr. Nelson returns to her family home on Delfor Colony and tries to hide her condition from her parents, Oswald and Harriet Nelson. The Nelsons are expecting, Amelia, and are concerned that their daughter seems to be acting so strangely. They accidentally stumble across her supply of Unlogi, the drug that maintains Nelson's symbiosis with Midon, and that combined with her strange eating habits, lead the Nelson's to conclude that their daughter is a pregnant drug addict. They take the Unlogi. Later Nelson cannot find her supply of the drug, but her parents have already gone on to the anniversary party. She goes there as well, feeling sicker by the minute. In the middle of the party, she demands her medication back. Her parents confront her with their conclusion, and Nelson finally reveals the truth about her joining just before she collapses.
Nelson wakes up in a hospital with her parents watching over her. The doctors were able to revive her and, using the Unlogi supply that the Nelsons had fortunately not disposed of, stabilize her. Her parents had contacted Waystation while Nelson was unconscious and learned how Nelson had risked her life to save Midon. They are very proud of her and start to get to know Amedon.
