Now that new saucers have arrived, Yeoman Tina Jones and Lieutenant Craig Porter have been assigned the joyous task of checking them out. It's dull, lonely duty...at least until Jones starts hearing things. Is the saucer haunted? Is it a Dominion trick? And just what does the missing USS Aerostar have to do with it?

Summary

STARDATE 50878

The stardrive section of the USS Exeter is destroyed when the ship's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Janice Browning accidentally gives computer access to a Changeling, who sabotages the warp core. In the chaos of getting everyone into the Exeter's saucer and getting it clear of the doomed stardrive section, Dr. Browning's nurse, Jim, is believed lost.

STARDATE 51602

Two Ambassador-class saucers, one of which belonged to the Exeter, are towed into position to be used as the basis for building the new saucers of Waystation. Lieutenant Craig Porter and Yeoman Tina Jones are assigned to examine the saucers to make sure they are cleared of top secret material before the contractors hired to build the new station, the Zenedron Construction Group start their work. Jones beams into the Exeter saucer and starts at the bridge, where she hears a ghostly voice calling her name. She flees into the jefferies tubes and comms Porter, who is on the other saucer, for help. Porter beams over but can't find anything. He heads back to the other saucer, telling Jones to comm him again if she has any other problems. Jones continues her work, moving down the decks until she reaches deck seven. There she finds Sickbay decorated with curtains and candles. Incense and the sound of music fills the air. She becomes sleepy. Very sleepy. And then collapses into unconsciousness.

Jones awakens some time later to find herself blindfolded, held in a biobed by a forcefield, and unable to see her captor, who calls himself the Phantom of the Exeter. Porter, meanwhile, is unable to contact Jones and beams over to the Exeter to find her. Porter cannot get into Sickbay, and to make sure that they remain alone, the Phantom orders the computer to shut off life-support in the rest of the saucer. Porter beams himself and the construction workers back to his runabout, and then tries to find a way to reach Jones. The Phantom releases Jones from the biobed, and she discovers that he's a scarred-up Nurse Jim in a cape. She's less than impressed and tries to get away from him, leading him on a chase around Sickbay. Jones is finally able to convince Nurse Jim that she can get him the help he needs. He relents and releases her, after which he is shipped off to Tantalus V.
