Will Sh'rak and Prosak end up going dutch? And who will make the first move?
Summary
Twenty years earlier – Prosak is interrupted by Harvak while studying for an exam. He tries to impress her with his new posting and tells her she is being foolish and illogical in her plan to attend Starfleet Academy. She says that the Federation could be at the center of any unification between Romulans and Vulcans. Harvak argues that unification can only come from Romulans and Vulcans alone. He knows that Vorak is no longer her sharal and tells her that together they could force a new direction for Romulus and Vulcan. Her decision to join Starfleet is a mistake, and she will be forgotten while he will write history.
In the present, Sh’rak has had Prosak and Eudora brought to his office. After a bit of arguing about his goals, he says that he doesn’t need them alive anymore. To stall for time, Prosak asks to have dinner date with him, which he agrees to.
At the Neutral Zone, Captain Reginald Bain does what he does best and commands the USS Anomaly in battle against multiple Romulan ships.
While Prosak prepares for her date, Lieutenant Commander Tovar contacts Rosalyn Bain for assistance, but she is busy working with Section 31 to repel the invasion and tells Tovar that he is on his own.
Determined to prove that his people are pawns and being controlled by the Vulcans, Commander Vioxx and his officers take the Raceabout USS Silverwood to a disabled warhawk so Sub-Commander Remax can examine the crew.
Prosak and Sh’rak have their date, which Eudora eventually joins after invoking a Vulcan rite that allows the mother to observe her child’s dates. She angers Sh’rak to the point that he storms off to find dessert, passing Tovar and Centurion Nortal, who have snuck into the governmental complex disguised as sanitation workers. He orders them to clear away the table scraps in his dining room. Once they go there, Sh’rak returns with soldiers, revealing that he knew it was Tovar and Nortal all along. He forces a mind meld on Prosak.
While trying to repair the Anomaly’s disruptor cannons, Lieutenant Shelly Marsden gets wedged into a crushed Jefferies tube. Dr. Natalia Kasyov goes to Cabral for help. She tells him that she misses their talks. He says he will assist. He sets off a small explosive that frees Marsden, and Kasyov says that she is taking him to dinner.
Vioxx, Remax, and Sub-Lieutenant Zantak take control of a warhawk and assist the Anomaly is rescuing the USS Enterprise-J from destruction. Remax finds that the ship only has a skeleton crew, and they were all victims of a mind meld.
On the LOL ship, Surap and Surat learn that Tovar and Nortal have been captured. They decide it is time to take logical action to save Vulcan and gather their followers.
Things are looking grim for the Federation fleet, but a Section 31 fleet decloaks, which Bain notes is they first time they have taken overt action in decades. The Anomaly receives work that Tovar and Nortal have been captured. Since Section 31 has the fight well in hand, Bain orders the Anomaly to Vulcan.
The members of LOL storm the government complex, neck pinching guards as they go. They enter Sh’rak’s office and fight the guards, allowing Tovar, Nortal, and Eudora to get free. Tovar has Eudora help him join Sh’rak’s mind meld with Prosak. In the meld, Sh’rak has completely taken control of Prosak and is forcing her to do whatever he wants. Tovar and Eudora, backed up by Tovar’s past lives, arrive before Sh’rak can have his way with Prosak. Sh’rak is overwhelmed and emerges from the meld half an hour later a sobbing broken heap. Tovar and Prosak, meanwhile, feel wonderfully refreshed.
The Anomaly arrives to find that Sh’rak has been defeated. Surap and Surat set to work undoing the mind meld damage Sh’rak caused in key members of the Vulcan government, after which they will head to the Romulan Empire to do the same. Bain is happy to have all of the members of his crew back aboard, and Tovar goes to see Marsden in sickbay. Bain and Prosak, who has met with a number of Vulcan counselors, also go to sickbay. She says that Sh’rak had a deep desire to unite Vulcan and Romulus, but his emotions were his undoing. She also tells them that she has a date of a sort that evening. She joins both of her parents for dinner. She tells her parents that she was offered an embassy position with the Vulcan government, but she has decided to stay on the Anomaly. Instead, she believes Eudora would be a better fit for the position.
Bain has a comm with Rosalyn, who starts to reveal her affiliation with Section 31, but Bain cuts her off, ranting about how Section 31 skulks around and trades in secrets and lies.
Kasyov and Cabral repair their friendship, while Tovar and Marsden have dinner together. They end up in the bedroom before the actually get around to eating.
