With one crewmember missing and another on his way to the brig, Lieutenant Commander Craig Porter struggles to figure out just WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!

Summary

This story picks up right after State Of Confusion.

Bradley Dillon contacts John Simms, Jr. to gloat that Captain Lisa Beck shut Simms' project down and learns that Beck did no such thing. Of course, Bradley has no idea that the Beck he talked to was actually the Selvan. Lieutenant Sean Russell feels they have a fairly simple case. Commander Walter Morales, overwhelmed with jealousy, killed Phillip Harper, then in shock at what he'd just done, he stood and did nothing as Beck snapped and sliced him up before she fled the station. Lieutenant Commander Craig Porter isn't so sure. Before revealing Harper's death and condemning Morales, he wants to talk to Morales first. In doing so, he realizes that Morales is missing an entire day. Morales' memories stop on the day before the attacks. Porter goes back to the security logs to track Morales' movements for the day. He sees the interference start in the middle of the previous night, and it seems to be emanating from Morales. Since Morales went to the station library during the missing day, Porter sends Yeoman Tina Jones to find out what he was doing there.

On Vega Two, the Selvan uses Beck's body to break into the Amitoriate Museum of Antiquities and steal an artifact from an exhibit of items found on Landris II. As Porter continues to work on the sensor logs, Stephanie Hodges comes to see him wanting to know where Beck is. Porter lies and tells her that Beck and Harper went to Alpha Centauri. Jones returns to Porter and reports that Morales was researching something called the Glyph of Ranit-Del and that the librarian gave him a data chip with the information on it. Porter has no idea what that is, but he is able to determine that the static is being caused by an energy field identical to one that he detected on Waystation one night in the previous year. Knowing what the energy contributing to the static is, Porter is able to improve the sensor footage from the events in Beck's quarters. He and Jones see Beck removing the chip from Morales' body after she attacked him. Porter is finally able to restore the audio in the footage. This evidence combines to exonerate Morales. Now they have to find out what the Glyph of Ranit-Del is. The information the librarian provides shows a list of artifacts housed in the Amitoriate Museum of Antiquities on Vega Two. Russell checks the Federation security alerts and learns that one item was taken from the museum's Landris II exhibit the night before.

Morales determines that he is going after Beck himself. If Starfleet is called it, the Selvan could just jump to another host, leaving Beck to be poked and prodded by Starfleet Sciences and effectively ending her career. Morales goes to see Bradley Dillon, who is unwilling to lend Morales a ship since Beck did not put a stop to Simms project. Morales says that he doesn't have time to sit there while Bradley and Simms fight about who's got the biggest bank account. Bradley thinks a bit, smiles, says Morales can have the ship, and thanks Morales for being a tremendous help. Morales has weapons systems attached to the S.S. Penzance, the ship he is borrowing from Bradley, and then takes off after Beck. As he departs, Bradley approaches Porter, who has again been left in command. He says he just wants to inform Porter of one small change he is making, then he hands Porter a padd that reads, "Bradley Dillon's Waystation."
