Dr. Amedon Nelson is coming back for a visit, but she has a demand that will send the command crew scrambling. Meanwhile, Bradley Dillon finds one of his lifelong dreams quickly turning into a nightmare.
Summary
In an effort to find a suitable planet for his proposed CasinoWorld, Bradley Dillon invites Frequoq Wuddle to the station for a meeting. At the same time, Nathaniel Billingsly, an author assigned to write a biography of Bradley, arrives. Wuddle and his wife, Dr. Amedon Nelson accept Bradley's invitation and come to Waystation. While aboard, they decide to have a dinner party with their friends, but there is one requirement: everyone has to bring a date. Considering that everyone in the command crew except Commander Walter Morales is single, this is a bit of a problem.
Bradley finds that his biographer is a bit more of an interrogator, delving into areas that Bradley would prefer not to discuss. Lieutenant Commander Craig Porter, unable to think of anyone to ask to dinner, decides to ask Yeoman Tina Jones to go with him only to discover that she has already found a date. She asks him if he sent her flowers, though, which he did not. Lieutenant Commander Sean Russell ends up inviting Dr. Diantha, who doesn't have an interest in going with Russell but she does want the opportunity to speak to Dr. Nelson. Diantha agrees. Out of options, Porter and Captain Lisa Beck end up deciding to go to the dinner with each other.
Billingsly becomes increasingly belligerent in his questions to Bradley, finally shouting at Bradley that Bradley had no business being President and that he was a disgrace to the office. Bradley tries to end the interview, but Billingsly pulls a weapon, which was hidden in a pen, on him.
The dinner party ends up being far more enjoyable than Porter is expecting. Of course, it helps that he is consuming large amount of Multek wine as is Beck. Morales and his date Stephanie Hodges, having also consumed a great deal of wine, spend most of the meal all over each other. Jones' date, meanwhile, is an Academy Annex classmate that she injured in class, and he is petrified of her. And Russell has to listen to Dr. Diantha grilling Dr. Nelson over her handling of patients.
Bradley learns that Billingsly feels that Bradley doesn't have the breeding to be President of the Federation. While Bradley's parents and ancestors are a bunch of nobodies, in Billingsly's view, Billingsly is descended from three Federation Presidents, fifteen different Presidents of the United States of America, two British Prime Ministers, and the English Royal Family. Despite his best efforts, though, Billingsly has not been able to get elected to any office anywhere, much less ascend to the presidency to which he feels he is entitled. Bradley tells him that Billingsly needs to become known inside the halls of power if he wants to get anywhere and offers Billingsly a job as his Official Biographer and Public Relations Secretary. Billingsly jumps at the offer and rushes off to tell his current employers of his plans to quit, dumping his thoughts of killing Bradley in the process. With Billingsly gone, Bradley contacts his Special Secret Section and inquires about the possibility of making someone disappear. Billingsly soon finds out that the Special Secret Section is more than happy to fulfill the President's wishes.
Diantha and Nelson's disagreement over the treatment of their patients is quickly escalating toward a fight, but then Nelson starts laughing, realizing that, since she isn't Chief Medical Officer anymore, she does care what Diantha does about the patients. With the crisis averted, the group is more than content to keep drinking and enjoying themselves.
The next morning Beck awakens to discover that she had enjoyed herself a little too much as evidenced by the fact that she and Porter are naked and in his bed. As the memories of what she and Porter had done the night before come flooding back, Beck realizes that Yeoman Jones had warned her about the dangers of Multek alcoholic beverages.
